My 2018 Power Word of Intention for Motivation

my power word of intention

Many of us take time during our busy holidays to reflect, think about the year past and begin to identify what we would like to do differently in the year to come. We set goals, we consider our intentions, we make resolutions and then we stick to them for about a… month or so…

We may journal about it, or write down a long list that let’s be honest, we will probably never look at again or just make a mental note on lots of things that we want to change. I know I used to. Until I heard about the “one word” concept.

Are you familiar with the “one word” concept?

It is a process designed to move you beyond the cycle of making lists about lots of things you would like to change but probably won’t, and instead challenges you to come up with one word that will help motivate and guide you to becoming the person you want to be.

It is simple.

It is perfect.

It works.

I started doing this several years ago and guess what? I actually stick to it. When questions arise or I have to make decisions, my intention word always popped into my head to guide me. I wasn’t bogged down with a list of things pressuring myself to make changes. Instead I had one word that spoke volumes to me and seemed to be at the crux of every decision I would make that year.

My Power Word of Intention

The first year I did it was in 2015, I chose the word believe. I had decided to believe in myself, something I had never done before. And amazing things happened that year.

The second year, I chose the word leap. I had decided to leap and do things that scared me but really helped me to grow into a better person. And incredible things happened that year too.

In 2017, I choose the word trust. I am going to trust myself, my choices and decisions, and those that I love to be right for me, for my family. Though I still struggle with this one, I let it guide me through some highly tumultuous times in 2017 as we transitioned to a new life.

On the dawn of 2018, I sat outside and meditated for a bit. I reflected on this past year, the heartache I had experienced, the challenges that seemed to be around every corner, and all of the good that I was blessed with. And one word came to mind as I started to think about the upcoming year. And I knew it was the right word for me at this point in my life.

My 2018 Power Word of Intention is Resilient. The wiki definition of Resilient is (of a person or animal) able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.

As you know, in 2017 I came Out of the Darkness and Into the Light. I have had a lot of hard moments and even more adjustments to make. Yet, I’m surviving. I’m still here.

So this year, I am going to focus on how resilient I can be. Life may knock me down, but I will never stop getting back up and shining my light wherever I can. So when I am trying to decide if I can take new risks and be the mom, daughter, lover, friend, sister and healer that I know I am, the word resilient will pop into my head and I will know I AM Resilient, that we as women together can #breakthefuture because we are all resilient. Because this is our time and in 2018 we have the opportunity to be the best we can be. #Metoo , just like you.

As you are sitting thinking about all of your resolutions and intentions, I challenge you to come up with one word and share it with us in the comments. Let’s share, explore and awaken together!

Cheers and Happy New Years!
