fall family activities Malibu

Summer may be over, but there is still fun to be had in Malibu! Fall is a gorgeous time of year in Malibu (ok, it is gorgeous here all year long but…) and there is so much going on.

Check out 8 awesome fall family activities in Malibu that I love doing with my kids.

Head to the beach in Malibu

Yup, that’s right, the beach! Malibu is home to some of the most incredible beaches in the world and the fall is a great time to visit them. The beaches are less crowded and the weather is perfect. Make a picnic or pick up some yummy treats from The Vintage Grocers and spend the day playing in the sand, sun and waves! Just be sure to check out this post on Malibu Beach Etiquette first!! 😉

Take a family paddle-board lesson at Malibu Surf Shack.

This is one of our favorite things to do and the whole family will enjoy it. The crew at the Malibu Surf Shack rocks and they will take good care of you and your family making sure everyone has the time of their life.

Check out the Malibu Library and Malibu Farmer’s Market on a Sunday.

The Malibu Library is part of the Los Angeles County Library system and is located just behind The Malibu Country Mart (where there is amazing shopping, loads of great restaurants and a playground for the kids) on Civic Center Way. The Malibu library has a fun reading garden, children’s room and teen space in addition to having great special events like story hours, special speakers and child-parent workshops. The Malibu farmer’s market opens on Sunday’s from 11-3 and is good fun out in front of the library area. We love to enjoy the farmer’s market for a while and then head over to library to play and get some new books!

Tour The Adamson House and walk the Malibu Lagoon.

The Adamson House is a perfectly preserved historic property in Malibu. With original pottery still there from the early 1900’s Malibu Potteries and wonderful true stories about the area, it is not something you want to miss. Admission is $7/adult, $5/child. Located on Surfrider Beach and just across from The Malibu Country Mart, it is fun to take the tour here then head over for some shopping and a great meal!

The Getty Villa in Malibu

Up on a hill sits The Getty Villa, a home designed to recreate an ancient Roman Country House. With art dating back over 7,000 years in over 23 galleries and a fun family forum allowing for hands-on play for parents and kids to explore there is something for every age member of the family to enjoy. Admission is free, though you do need an advance, timed entry ticket, available on-line, parking is $15.

The Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts at Pepperdine University.

They host many different types of family-friendly performances throughout the year. Anything from dancers to singers to circus performers. After some shows they do a “Family Art” program allowing children and parents to do some hands-on activities and meet-and-greets. They also always have very interesting art displays here. This is a great place to bring your children to really let your imagination out!

The Malibu Country Mart.

My family and I love this place. They have great festivals here as well as a nice playground for the kids, excellent shopping for mommy and fantastic restaurants for all to enjoy! It is easy to spend a day here in this casual, happy environment where everyone can have fun!

Paradise Cove Beach Café.

This is a fun spot that is packed all summer, and perfect in the fall. You can choose to sit outside in the sand or inside in the casual, beachy atmosphere. They also have day beds, umbrella’s and chairs on the beach for you to rent and include drink/food service. The kids can play in the sand and have a great time while you enjoy some cocktails and yummy food.

Now that you know what we will be up to, what are your favorite things to do in Malibu this fall?
