Why I Always Leave a Note in Their Lunchbox

Why I Always Leave a Note in Their Lunchbox

Elementary school is such a transition, especially kindergarten and first grade.

Kids are incredibly resilient and will be just fine, really happy even!

It gives my kids something exciting to read from me in their lunchbox as I try to use words that they are currently learning in school. It also reminds them I love them and can’t wait to see them after school midway through their day. And sometimes, knowing that can change the rest of their day.

It gives them a confidence boost to know I (we) am (are) thinking about them.

I timed it when I wrote the above note this morning – 4 seconds. That is it. 4 seconds to write a quick note on a napkin and tuck it into their lunchbox. 4 seconds to give your child a little mid-day boost. 4 seconds to challenge them to read something. 4 seconds to reassure your child how loved they are.

Notes can be left on napkins, paper towels, cloth towels, I have even broken down and used a tissue once!!!

Try leaving your little one a note in their lunch today and discover how good that it makes your child feel. Share your story with us!

  1. This is such a lovely idea, and one that I think of and then forget in the rush of the morning! I did remember on my 8yo’s birthday and he was so pleased x Thank you so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x

  3. My daughter has to have her name written on her piece of fruit for snack at school, sometimes a sticker for an apple or on the skin of a banana/orange etc, I always draw a smiley face or a pic of a little cat or something on it too, it makes me smile so hopefully she does too. #binkylinky

  5. An utterly brilliant idea! Although I would worry that I would forget to do it one day in the mad rush and would end up with a disappointed little bear ;s #ThePrompt

  7. I love this. Defiantly going to do it when my baby is older. Sometimes things like I love you are taken for grated and everyday they get that message and know how much they are adored. Plus educating aswell, you have to be able to read mummys message :)x

  8. What a great idea. My youngest can’t read just yet but is getting there slowly. 4 seconds is nothing and it to be able to give your child a boost during the day, even when you’re not there in person, is such a brilliant idea. xx
