How to Clean Your Kitchen Fast!

While the kitchen can arguably be labeled the most used room in the house, cleaning it can be a nightmare!!

Every night I look at the disaster zone where people have eaten (and left their dishes out), dropped whatever they were carrying on the counter (because it has legs and will find it’s home by itself…) or forgotten to tell me about a spill and I cringe. But the thought of letting it go for a day makes me shiver more so tackle it I must!!

Welcome to the 4th post in my Household Cleaning Tips Series!

Tips to Clean Your Kitchen Fast

Tip 1: Keep up with it on a daily basis! By doing a quick walk through of the house to collect all dishes and then getting the dishes done, sanitizing your counter tops and sweeping (Ok, I vacuum the kitchen floor as I find it more effective than sweeping) each day, the buildup will not be as bad for the weekly deep clean!

Tip 2: Keep your tools where you need them! I make sure to keep my disinfectant spray (here is my run down on Cleaning Products), rubber gloves, sponges, paper towels/rags all handy in the kitchen.

Tip 3: Involve your family! Have your family members clear & dump their plates and leave them by the sink when they are finished. Maybe have the kids choose some fun music to motivate them to make cleaning fun. I have been working on this one for a while now!!!!

Tip 4: Plan to do your big weekly clean the day before garbage day so the food that gets tossed only spends one night in the bin!

Tip 5: Develop your kitchen cleaning groove! Here’s my groove:

  • Take a walk through the house to collect dishes/glasses/mugs that have been strewn about and bring them to the sink.
  • Have a look around the kitchen and put away all items that have been left out. Remove items that do not belong to their proper room. Move any pots, pans or dishes that need washing to the sink area.
  • Clean out your microwave with a disinfectant spray.
  • Wipe down appliances and light switches.
  • Go through your fridge and toss out old food. If stored in a container, put the container next to the sink for cleaning.
  • Go through your pantry, toss out anything stale. Straighten it up while you are there!
  • Now our favorite part – do the dishes! Load the dishwasher or do them by hand, however you prefer!
  • Clean counters and all surfaces with disinfectant spray.
  • Take the garbage out.
  • Start the dishwasher – only if it is full, of course!
  • Vacuum/sweep floor.
  • Wash the floor with a proper mop and disinfecting floor cleaner.

Done! That is it! Clean your kitchen fast – in under 10 minutes with these great tips!

Monthly you will want to dump all of the bits out of the toaster, empty out your refrigerator so you can disinfect and clean it and dust any light fixtures you have in there. It is also a good idea to steam clean your floor and your countertops. Here are the 2 steamers I use regularly for carpets, hardwoods and counters (and LOVE) Shark Sonic Duo Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner (ZZ550) and the Shark Premium SC630 Portable Steam Pocket

Quarterly you will want to check water filters and clean the oven out (groan – I hate this one!).

Yearly you should try to clean behind the large appliances. Pull them out and vacuum/sweep/disinfect away!
