One of my favorite experiences to have with my kids is to check out local state parks. State parks are everywhere and can be a great resource in learning about the local history. The Flume Gorge in New Hampshire is one of our favorites.

It is a place I have been too a few times growing up and I love going back to now, especially with my kids, to see how much nature changes.

What is The Flume Gorge in New Hampshire?

‘The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The walls of Conway granite rise to a height of 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart. A trip into the Flume begins and ends at the Flume Visitor’s Center. Guests can choose to walk through just the Gorge or do a two-mile loop. ‘ (source)

A hike along The Flume Gorge is perfect for families as it is pretty easy. There are a few inclines, but they are completely doable with plenty of areas to rest and view along the way.

There are two covered bridges that you get to cross over, both offering incredible views and unique photo opps.

There are several waterfalls to be seen and quite a few exceptionally old and large granite rocks around.

Why Should I Visit The Flume Gorge in New Hampshire?

The views are spectacular. Between gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains, giant, ancient rocks and brilliant views of The Flume Gorge wateralls, there is beauty you won’t want to miss here everywhere.

The air is so fresh and pure. It doesn’t get any fresher than pure mountain air! Breathing deeply as you hike/exercise oxygenates your blood and makes you feel great. All of that clean oxygen is sure to give you an energy boost and put you in a good mood.

It is great exercise. Hiking is a fantastic way to get the blood circulating and the heart beating.

The family bonding time. If you go with your whole family or even just your kids, hiking is the perfect opportunity to talk and bond together. This particular hike is very easy so there is plenty of time to talk, you can even print the scavenger hunt out to do with the kids offered here.

What Should I Wear and Bring to The Flume Gorge in New Hampshire?

Comfortable shoes. Warm, absorbent socks, loose pants and layers on top, depending on the time of year.

Don’t forget to bring water, your camera and your sunscreen!

It took us about an hour to do the loop through the Flume Gorge. The kids handled it easily and everyone smiled and had fun the whole way!

I highly recommend, if you find yourself in the Lincoln area of New Hampshire, that you plan a morning hike here, it is well worth it!
