How To Get Last-Minute Travel Deals

how to get last minute travel deals

Normally I am a planner with a schedule. But every so often Thursday rolls around and I am feeling the wanderlust hard with no trip itinerary in site. Fortunately for me there are some simple steps I can take to make a last-minute trip happen – even with the kids!

1st Tip: How To Get Last-Minute Travel Deals

Check out and sign up with some travel sites that offer alerts. Airfarewatchdog.com is a site I use for alerts on flight deals out of my local airport. Though I have yet to book anything, I do see some great deals go by. AirBnB.com is another great site.

2nd Tip: How To Get Last-Minute Travel Deals

Keep an open mind! The more flexible you are the better. There are lots of great options out there for last-minute trips if you keep your mind open to new and different options – for both days to travel and places to stay.

3rd Tip: How To Get Last-Minute Travel Deals

Use Twitter! Prices are constantly changing. Following and checking the twitter feeds of the company you are looking to travel with is a great way to keep up with that. @Airfarewatchdog and @AirBnB are 2 I always keep an eye on!

4th Tip: How To Get Last-Minute Travel Deals

Use Facebook! Like the companies fan page and keep an eye on it for great deals! Travel companies love to share the love with those that like and follow so facebook is where they are likely to give some great deals. I really like the AirBnB page and the Expedia page, among others.

5th Tip: How To Get Last-Minute Travel Deals

Remember to consider the extra fees! Don’t forget some airlines now charge for baggage so remember to add these fees plus taxes and possible handling charges in to your final amount before deciding which deal is best. Hotels/car rentals also have “hidden charges” so be sure to factor this all in.

Last-minute travel is possible and getting cheaper and cheaper for the savvy traveler. You just have to know where to look!
