Our Minecraft Birthday Party at Kids World LA

Celebrating birthdays is one of my favorite things to do. I love gathering the friends and parents of my children together to appreciate another year of life, of accomplishments, of growth of the birthday child.

Children’s birthday parties are also a great time for parents to get to know each other while their kids have are occupied having fun.

But I am not going to lie here. The actual celebrating part is what I like – I could do without all of the crazy planning and prep and clean up part when having it at home!

So this year, for my son’s birthday, we decided to try something different.

There is a giant indoor children’s playground called Kids World LA. We had been a couple of times and knew they had recently re-opened with a new gourmet chef, a beer and wine license and some seriously cool special birthday party activities so I checked out their website for more info.

Where is Kids World LA?

Kids World LA is in Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, CA. Conveniently located off the 101, take the Lindero Canyon Blvd exit and head north for about 7 minutes. It will be in a big plaza on your right. Get directions here.

When is Kids World LA open?

Tuesday – Thursday 10-8; Friday – Saturday 10-9; Sunday 10-7; Monday closed for private functions and fundraisers.

Available party times are: 10; 1:30 and 4pm Tuesday – Sunday with an additional 6pm option for Friday and Saturday nights.

Why Did We Choose Kids World LA?

After checking out their very informative website and comparing all of our options I determined that at the end of the day, when you take a good look at what you spend to have everyone to your home for a birthday party, the price of a party at Kids World LA is relative and comes with NO CLEAN UP at your house and all kinds of other perks!!

So I called and spoke with the owner, Kristina. She was very kind and patient with me and answered all of my questions.

  1. The Food – their menu. I knew they had a new chef there with a new menu, but I was curious if it was the same old ‘kids food’ or something really good, so I asked. 🙂 I was so pleased to find out all of their food is fresh, organic and as local as possible. They use only grass-fed or free-range meats and have a seasonal menu now!! Everything is homemade there and never frozen. I was even happier to be able to serve my guests healthy salads and different appetizer options – and let me tell you ALL of the food tasted amazing, every single one of our guests was surprised at how delicious it all tasted.minecraft kids world la birthday partyminecraft kids world la birthday party
  2. The special birthday activities. I knew there were a few special things for the birthday parties, but I wasn’t sure what. 🙂 My son was excited to find out about the giant bouncing ball room. For parties, the birthday child and all of their guests get to come in and put these huge clear balls on and roll around bumping into each other. My daughter thought it was really cool that they now offer a build-a-bear special party activity where you can choose the bear and together build your new special friend. Soon they will have a brand new lazer tag game as well!
  3. Helpers – how involved are they in the birthday party planning/execution process. 🙂 Kristina explained that her staff would walk with me through the whole process from ordering enough food, to decorations to keeping the party flow moving.

This all sounded great so, after discussing it with my son, we booked it!

Our Kids World LA Experience

Once we had picked the date, I met with Maya, the event manager at Kids World LA. We went over the mouthwatering party menu. I simply told her about how many people we would have and our tastes and she helped me pick the things to order. She knew how much to order, all I had to do was say yes or no! Here she is helping set up the day of –

Maya then went over decorations with me. My son is fully into Minecraft right now so we wanted to go with a Minecraft theme. Maya had some great ideas on for this and even followed thru with sending me some links for great ideas on more Minecraft party decorations.

She made the planning so easy!

I sent out email invitations to my son’s classmates and set about making a few special things for the party.

Our Minecraft Decorations

I thought it would be fun to make Brewing Station for the party. I found some pintable’s on pinterest, got this giant green poster board from Micheal’s and hubby and I set about making our own version. I also printed out water bottle labels saying ‘potion of healing’ that our two awesome party helpers put on each bottle for us! Check out the display:

I cut them out and glued them to the poster. Then I attached the Poster to a piece of cardboard and asked all of my son’s guests to sign it. It now hangs on his wall and he loves reading all of the little messages from his friends!

For center pieces we printed out some Minecraft heads and made TNT out of twizzlers!

We ordered our Creeper Cakes and made a fun little creeper cake stand –

Kids World LA does provide goody bags for your guests to take home, but I wanted to add a few things to make it more personal.

We made these Minecraft Key Chains and printed out special wrappers for chocolate bars – again, thank God for pinterest and all of the amazing DIY mamas out there, I would not have known what to do otherwise!

The Day Of Our Minecraft Party at Kids World LA

We arrived about 30 minutes prior to the party and the room was already mostly set up. We had two party helpers come in and get the water bottles labeled for the brewing station. They went over everything with me again to make sure that the party would run smoothly.

Our helpers were great with directing the kids, answering questions that anyone had and definitely kept the flow of the party going.

I actually got to have a drink, relax and enjoy celebrating my little guy!

In the beginning the kids were given a video game card and let to play for about 45 minutes while the parents enjoyed some beer, wine, healing potion (water) or prosecco and some yummy nibbles.

Then we all went in to try out the bouncing ball room. This was hilarious! A great workout for all the kids plus a ton of fun!!

Check out the picture above and imagine 15 kids rolling around in them!!

After we had everyone back in our private room to eat dinner and have creeper cakes! The food was outstanding – like good enough that this may become a new spot to go to for dinner on occasion! The kids can play and Mommy and Daddy can sit together with a drink and some good eats!!

Loving the food signs they printed out for us to tell everyone what the dish is!

There was about 15 minutes left after they ate for the kids to play.

When it was over, our helpers kindly brought everything out to the car for us while the kids played. They did such a great job!

Kristina, the owner, even popped her head in to wish Finn a happy birthday. She also checked in with me to make sure everything was going well – which I thought was fantastic. It was nice to see the owner of a children’s facility so hands-on with her customers and so concerned that everything be just right and each detail be met with perfection.

This was one of the most fun parties we have ever had!! Kids World LA took all of the stress out of party planning and execution!! We had a great experience there and so can you!

Do I Have to Have a Party to Go To Kids World LA?

Not at all! You can visit anytime they are open. The great thing about Kids World LA is that the adults get free admission!! They have excellent food, beer and wine plus free Wi-Fi and an adult area. There is a supervised toddler section for your really littles and the whole facility is completely secure. The doors are locked and a staff member has to check each and every person out so no child can ‘escape’!!

Just remember to bring your socks as both children and adults have to wear socks in there at all times. Though they do have cute Kids World LA socks if you do forget yours! 😉
