What is New in Malibu at Vintage Grocers

The Vintage Grocers is our market in West Malibu offering all sustainable, local produce and products. It is a hometown grocery store with homegrown food that my kids and I love to visit. The colors are always vibrant in the produce section, the bakery always has some amazing treat just waiting for us and the wine selection never fails me!

Recently, I attended a foodie event there where we were shown the new product arrivals and given the chance to preview how they make their own sausage right on site. Not only did I learn how to professionally stuff some sausage ๐Ÿ˜‰ but I also got to taste lots of yummy things!

What is New at Vintage Grocers

We started off in one of my favorite sections โ€“ the produce department. This section is bursting with color and flavor.

The Vintage Grocers proudly carries produce from our local Thorne Family Farm. Larry Thorne is a 3rd generation farmer who left his corporate career to come and follow in his ancestors footsteps of sustainable farming.

Because of our fertile soil here in Malibu and the crop-rotation practices of the Thorne Family Farm, they are able to produce a multitude of sustainable crops including (but not limited to!!): kale, blueberries, tomatoes, chard, lettuce, Tuscan broccoli, avocados, squash, strawberries, melons and corn.

They grow their tomatoes with a unique process called โ€œdry farmingโ€ meaning they literally just put the seeds in the ground and let them grow without any form of watering or irrigation.

We tasted the tomatoes and blueberries and they were amazing. I brought some home and neither pint made it to the fridge. They are so delicious, my kids had them for snack after school and polished them off!

They showed us a new line of alcohol Kambucha. We did not taste it, but it is on my list of things to go back and buy. It sounds refreshing and healthy with a little kick to it!

The Vintage Grocers has fantastic meat (they are now carrying Meyers sustainable, grass-fed beef) but I never realized they make their own sausages right on-site and even have their own signature sausage recipes.

We were given the opportunity to watch their staff make their signature Zuma Sausage using local ingredients and free-range chickens. They also sent some home with us to try.

Hubby boiled them then put them on the grill for a few minutes for flavor and I have to say, though I may not be a big sausage fan, these are very good. Even the kids liked them. So this will be something new for me to go back and get because not only did we have fun making them at home together, but everyone liked to eat them โ€“ a win-win!

We then stopped by the bakery and deli. I know I love this section and I know it is dangerous for me!! The baker bakes most things right there on site. Her apple pies, vegan cheesecake and fun little pastries are simply scrumptious. It is always a treat to pick something out from this counter. My kids love these little chocolate mice that they make there โ€“ yummmmm!!

The deli carries excellent pasta dishes, salads and only the finest sandwich meats โ€“ they have some great suggestions but can also make any kind you would like. It is all good food!

The Vintage Grocer gives back to the community as well in various ways. Be sure to keep an eye on their summer schedule as they usually host all kinds of fun family-friendly events!
