5 Reasons to Visit Koro Sun Resort in Fiji

Koro Sun Resort Fiji

I have heard the exotic call of Fiji since I was a child.

Recently, my dream became a reality!

On our second honeymoon to Fiji, we stayed in a Floating Bure at Koro Sun Resort in Savusavu, Fiji.

It was absolutely nothing like what I expected it to be, yet everything that I had hoped it would be.

This is why.

My 5 Reasons to Visit Koro Sun Resort in Fiji

The People. The people of Fiji are truly happy and very welcoming. At this resort in particular, the staff was friendly and just happy. They were ready to point you in the right direction, show you their land or customs with a fun excursion or share a story with you at any time. We really felt like a part of their family while we were there and met many people whom we will remember forever – people whom I hope to bring my children back to meet one day soon.

The Floating Bure! Koro Sun Resort is the first resort to ever have floating bures – they are luxury rooms that are literally floating, attached to land by dock. So as the tide or a wave comes and goes, the room gently rocks. They are incredible. This is what they look like:

The Amenities. The activities at this resort are fantastic. We did lots of kayaking as we had one docked at our floating bure the whole time. We also enjoyed snorkeling, stand up paddleboarding, adult pool time, hiking in the rainforest, a river kayaking trip through the rainforest, local basket weaving classes, a trip to town (which was loads of fun) and so much more. I felt completely safe and in good hands at this resort and it is now high on my list of places I want to bring my children to. They have a very nice looking kids club and โ€˜Bula Buddiesโ€™ (nannies) available for you at all times.

The scenery. It is just breathtakingly beautiful. Every. Inch. Of. It. Koro Sun Resort is located on the second largest island in Fiji Vanua Levu. You fly into Nadi and get a connecting flight to Savusavu. It is about an hour flight on a smaller plane that really allows you to see the islands from the air. Once in Savusavu, it is about a 15 minute car ride through paradise until you reach the resort. Once at the resort, there are stunning views from every angle which makes this resort well worth the visit. This is the view from our romantic, candle-lit dinner. It. Was. Brilliant.

The food. There are 3-4 food choices per meal, 3 meals a day and all of them were delicious. Between my husband and I we managed to try mostly everything and were quite pleased. In town there were only a couple of food choices, none that we tried. I was happy eating at this resort, as was hubby and I think my kids would have enjoyed everything we ate as well. Then there was the Kava drinkโ€ฆ but I will save that for another post!!

Koro Sun Resort really gives you a true taste of the Fijian lifestyle. I will forever cherish the time we spent there and look forward to returning with my children one day.

  1. Fiji has always appealed to my tropic-loving senses. I think the floating bures sound absolutely heavenly!!! How difficult was the kayaking? I’ve been intrigued by that and stand up paddle boarding for a while now, I think I’ll try it on my next trip!

    • Kayaking is very easy there as the staff all are familiar with the tides so they are sure to put you in with the current. It is such a peaceful way of getting around, please do try it! Stand Up Paddle boarding is also peaceful and amazing but a LOT of work if you stand the whole time. I bounced between standing and paddling on my knees which worked out great. Was tons of fun, but I won’t lie – I was sore the next day!! The experience is totally worth it though! Safe travels! ๐Ÿ˜‰
