My Values

My Values

values

At the park last week, while the kids were playing, one of my lovely friends brought up and questioned a list of values that had been suggested to her as healthy.

While I think that values are super important to have, I do not think one list works for everyone.

Values are incredibly personal and will help to define YOU. So how can someone else’s list work for you?

Why do I need values?

Listing out your values is a great way to find happiness and purpose in your life.

It is the first step in taking control of your life and getting to know yourself – acknowledging what is important to YOU.

By sharing mine here, I am hoping to inspire you to take some time and actually write down your values. Don’t just think about them, put it down on paper and hold yourself accountable for them. We will later develop them into goals so it is important to have them listed out.

Why do I write down my values?

My values will guide me on my journey. Then I will define my personal mission statement and pinpoint my goals and from there I will be able to form a plan to attain my dreams.

Seeing it in writing helps make it real.

Values are an integral part of What Makes You Happpy?

Here are my values and why.

Value 1:

Health. Here’s why: without your health you have nothing. Period. If you don’t take care of yourself (and teach your children to do the same) then you will not be there for all of the good parts of life or be there when you are needed. Your health must come first.

Value 2:

Family. Here’s why: I don’t think you can separate mate/children/parents. There will be times in life where your children will have to come first, there will be times in life where your mate must come first, there will be time in life where your parents are going to have to come first. By putting family second on my list of values I am reassuring myself that I will be there for each person 100% as needed. Hopefully they will not all ‘need’ me at the same time, but in that event, I can work it out depending upon the situation.

Value 3:

Learning & Creating. Here’s why: life is an amazing journey for which I am totally up for the ride. I want to learn as much as I can and use that knowledge to create a better, prettier life for those that will come after me. I learn every day because I am open to the lessons.

Value 4:

Inspiring People. Here’s why: nothing feels better than knowing I have reached one person and changed their life in some small way. Helping people is amazing and definitely important to me.

Value 5:

Traveling. Here’s why: there is so much to see, feel, hear, smell, do! Traveling, meeting new people, trying new foods all fascinates me endlessly. I truly value the fact that planes, trains and automobiles exist to take us to places we never would have been able to 100 years ago!

Now take a few minutes, sit down with pen and paper and think about what you value in life. List them out in any order at first, then move them around to arrange them in order of priority.

I would love to read them, please share your #values with us!

Together, we can decide what is next in our lives for ourselves!

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing how I have strategized to get what I want out of life. So be sure to follow this blog and receive a copy of my eBook Treat Yourself Well, 8 Steps to Better Living, free for a limited time!
