Which Sleep Pose Is Right For You?

which sleep pose is right for you

Did you know that the way you are sleeping could be the cause of back, neck and joint pain, wrinkles, tummy problems and more?

Today we are going to break down the different sleep poses and the pros and cons of each!

Sleep Pose #1: Back Sleep

This is supposed to be one of the best ways for our bodies to rest, however less than 14% of us are back sleepers!

Pros of Back Sleep:

  1. Best position for our head, neck and spine to align in
  2. Keeps back in its natural form, pressure free
  3. Reduces acid reflux
  4. Reduces wrinkles
  5. Ladies – keeps our breasts right where they are supposed to be!!

I am currently using the Sleep Time Products Back to Sleep pillow to train myself to sleep on my back. It has been about a week that I have been using it and I am loving it so far. The very first morning after I slept with the Back to Sleep pillow, I awoke with no neck pain for the first time in years. They are offering this same experience to you for 10% off right now, just enter “malibumamaloves” into the coupon box when ordering! To get your 10% off now – click here!

Cons of Back Sleep:

  1. May cause snoring, not good for people who already snore
  2. Not good for people with sleep apnea

Sleep Pose #2: Side Sleep

With more than 63% of Americans sleeping this way – I [used to be] one of them, it is the second best way to sleep.

Pros of Side Sleep:

  1. Reduces acid reflux
  2. Better for snoring less
  3. Best for sleep during pregnancy
  4. A recommended treatment for sleep apnea
  5. Preventing neck and back pain, but it may cause it too…

For years I have slept on my side with a body pillow between my arms and legs. I have always had neck pain and I think it is about that time that I start taking extra care with the condition of my skin…!! So I am trying back sleep. However, side sleep is not bad and may work just fine for you! Just be sure to keep a pillow between your knees so as not to stress your lower back so much.

It is best to sleep on your left side during pregnancy. Being on your left side naturally increases your blood flow. Use a body pillow to rest your belly and knee on for maximum comfort during this time.

Cons of Side Sleep:

  1. Saggy breasts
  2. May cause neck and back pain
  3. Will cause wrinkles

Sleep Pose #3: Stomach Sleep

This is the worst one, however some of us do sleep this way.

Pros of Stomach Sleep:

  1. Very little chance of snoring

I don’t know how people sleep on their stomachs, it kills my neck and I am always afraid I am going to go face into pillow during the night and stop breathing all together!

Cons of Stomach Sleep:

  1. Definite wrinkles
  2. Flattened, saggy breasts
  3. Neck, back and joint pain
  4. Possible suffocation…!!!!

Considering we spend 1/3 of our lives asleep, it should be important to maximize the benefits of sleep. Being conscious of the position (and pillow) in which you sleep will add value to your sleep.

Sleep Tip:

Enhance Sleep While You Are Awake – the right sleep hormone productions depends on the proper hormone function during the day. So be sure to eat right and exercise each and every day as these are 2 things that will really affect your hormones function!

Sweet Dreams!
