4 Tips To Finding The Perfect Family Ski Resort

perfect family ski resort

With winter travel planning still on my mind, I have been looking into which ski resorts would be the best to take my kids to this season.

Family ski trips are something I grew up enjoying with my parents and brother, some of my most cherished memories are from these trips. Like the time my brother missed the chair lift seat, grabbed onto the bar and was hoisted 20 feet up the air, just hanging there (he was 9…) while Mom and I screamed. The attendant didn’t even notice for the first few seconds… but hey it was the 80’s!!

Or swimming in the heated outdoor pool after a long day of skiing and then seeing who could sit in the snow the longest in their bathing suit…

I want my children to experience all of this. So as I have been reviewing the resorts out here, I realized that there were certain criteria to finding the perfect family ski resort.

4 Tips To Finding The Perfect Family Ski Resort

  1. Search for all day ski school programs. Most resorts offer lessons to children, but truly family friendly resorts offer all day programs for kids. They mix in skiing, lunch and play time to give the kids a truly unique experience as well as the best opportunity to learn/improve their ski skills and keep them entertained.
  2. Search for resorts with other winter activities on site. Skiing is great, but the kids can burn out from it so you want to make sure there are other things to do. I look for an outdoor heated pool (but I will take an indoor heated one too!!), a skating rink, a sledding/tubing hill, a movie theater and a resort that offers daily craft activities for the kids.
  3. Search for a resort with ski in/ski out capability. This is a little luxury and I don’t always find them, but when I do, the trip is that much easier! Carrying your own skis plus the kid’s skis plus the bag of winter hats/warmer/mittens/food etc. can be heavy. Having the ability to ski right in and out of where you are staying alleviates that and is very nice! Plus it makes lunch easier… 😉
  4. Search for a resort where kids ski free. Toddlers and under 4 usually do ski free, but sometimes in order to draw more families in, the resorts will offer special deals like a kids ski free package with an adult ski package. They are trying to make it more budget friendly for families to travel and if you are aware of it, you can take advantage of it. So always ask or search for these travel deals before you book it.

The winter is a great time to travel with your family and many ski resorts offer the opportunity to make memories and have a blast! For more tips on planning a family ski trip, click this link.
