6 Conscious Steps To Overcome Your Fear Of Failure

fear-of-failure

We all suffer from it at some point in our lives. Thefear of failure.

Some more than others, and that is ok.

Last week we talked about the fear of failure and the 4 root causes of it. Today I want to dive right into 6 conscious steps you can start taking today, right now, to overcome your fear of failure.

Because I know you can do it. If I can, you definitely can!! I think the biggest thing for me is that I truly do feel like if/when I fail (because I inevitably do and I’m so clutzy, I’m used to it lol) it is merely a lesson and an open window to something new to try. So what that didn’t work? Moving onto the next.

Adopting this type of mindset can be very helpful, but first there are a few things you need to do before you can get there…

6 Conscious Steps To Overcome Your Fear Of Failure

  1. Identify your fear. You need to be honest with this one. Dig deep. Do one of the four root causes of fear of failure resonate to you? Try writing it down and being honest with yourself as to why and how this fear began to form. Think about it, sit with it, identifying the source of the fear will take some of the power away from it.
  2. Re-frame your beliefs about the action. Look honestly at what needs to be accomplished and create a clear vision of doing so that includes learning some lessons along the way. Expect the unexpected, accept that there may be something that goes wrong, prepare for it. Doing some visualization exercises will help you be ready for anything with your best foot forward.
  3. Positive thinking. Whether we want to or not, our brains definitely listen to themselves. Remember the power of positive? It is applicable here. Think good thoughts, good things will happen. Remember that even the most successful of people have encountered failure in the beginning and probably periodically through their lives. It is how they CHOOSE to handle that failure that sets them apart. Just something to think about ????
  4. Worse-case Scenario. Go ahead, fall down that rabbit hole for 5 minutes. Let all of the negative thoughts out on paper. Then read them and realize – it’s just not that bad. Generally, our minds can get so out of control we don’t even realize that when we do let ourselves think logically of the worst outcomes, they really are not that bad and we actually would have a lot to learn from it.
  5. Have a back up plan. Believe it or not, I do this a lot and it does help. If one thing doesn’t work, another will. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Keeps the anxiety down!!
  6. Get excited to learn! The excitement to learn can overcome anything, knowledge is power!! So even if it is a failure, it is ok because you are learning from it. Dig deep and discover all there is to learn.

Because once you have learned that failure is an opportunity for great growth and awareness, you have learned to conquer your fear of failure. Simple as that.
