7 Tips to Reduce EMFs

Electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) are invisible lines of force that surround any plugged in or wireless electrical device. EMFs are made up of waves of electric and magnetic energy radiating (moving together) through space. Electric fields are produced by electric charges and magnetic fields are produced by the flow of current through wires or electrical devices.

The Most Common Sources Emitting EMFs

  • Power lines
  • Wi-Fi routers
  • Wireless modems, monitors (baby and computer), alarms, video game consoles, laptops, TVs, printers
  • Blue tooth device
  • Electrical wiring
  • All things plugged in
  • Microwave ovens
  • Cellular phones
  • DECT cordless phones
  • Antennas
  • Electricity substations
  • High voltage cables
  • Your neighbors’ electronic devices.

The Different Kinds of EMFs

There are two different types of EMFs – natural EMFs (the earth produces an electromagnetic field and so too does the human body. They are called extremely low frequency ELF’s; a healthy human body resonates with the earth’s magnetic field at around 10 hertz. These natural EMFs are very important to our health) and artificial EMFs (these are the bad ones. They come from human technologies – from your ipad and mobile phone to your hair dryer as well as high voltage wires. These strong EMFs have been shown to disturb the human body’s natural energetic field.)

Interesting fact: We’re exposed to 100 million times greater artificial EMFs radiation than our grandparents were, and that exposure grows each year.

Are EMFs bad for us?

Though more research does need to be done in this area, scientists continue to find evidence that there may be biological effects to us related to our exposure to radiation emitted from EMFs. Headaches, autism, nervous system disorders, chronic pain, ADD, even cancers have all been linked to exposure to EMFs.

Currently in the USA there are no federal standards limiting occupational or residential exposure to power line EMFs. Yet many other countries (Sweden, China, and India to name a few) have very stringent EMFs regulations.

So what should we do about EMFs?

Learn about them, be aware of them and do your best to protect you and your loved ones from them.

Tips on How to Reduce the EMFs in Your Body, Home or Office.

#1 – Ditch the WiFi. WiFi is overwhelmingly the main contributor to household EMFs with power densities much higher than even power lines or your cell phone. It simply is not good for us. At the very least make sure that it gets turned off at night. Consider using a hard-wired router instead.

#2 – Remove all plugged in electronics out of the bedroom and other rooms where you spend the most of your time. If you need an alarm clock, use a battery powered one as the digital bedside alarm clock that only needs 6 volts to operate, but is plugged into your 120 volt ring circuit (240 volts in the UK) radiates out the extra 114 volts as energy and heat! This applies to all plugged in things. Keep charging laptops and cell phones at least 3 rooms away from where you sleep.

#3 – Do not use digital baby monitors. These monitors use the same technology as DECT cordless phones. They continuously pulsate microwave energy throughout the baby’s room and beyond. Always make sure to keep the monitors at least 3 feet away from baby’s (and your) bed.

#4 – Test! There are a few great kits you can buy to test for EMFs all by yourself. Knowledge is power!

#5 – Change from your old curved TVs and monitors to the flat screen as the flat screen monitors and TVs give off far less EMFs than the older version.

#6 – Use Earthing Techniques. This is super cool. Remember how I said that the earth and our bodies also create EMFs call ELFs? Well studies have shown that by getting outside, barefoot to dirt, sand, or grass can reduce the bad EMFs our body has stored up. Or go for a swim in the ocean! Spending just 30 minutes a day outside, connected to Mother Nature in some way, can absolutely reduce the effects of EMFs on our bodies. You can also use earthing sheets and grounding rods for your computers and electronics.

#7 – EMFs Shield! There are a few great shields for EMFs on the market today. They can be pricey but if you live near power lines or cell phone towers, you should definitely consider purchasing a EMFs shield. They even have an EMFs shielding paint you can buy and use!
