Conscious Goal Setting – What You Need To Know

The Covid-19 quarantine has given us all a lot of time to think and re-think our paths. Many people feel like they are floating through life, coping to survive day to day feeling like they work really hard yet can’t seem to get anywhere.

We all go through seasons where we feel this way. That is why goal setting is so important. We’ve talked before about setting intentions, which is a great place to start and to keep us motivated. However it is important to set goals as well. Realistic goals. Whereas our intentions will motivate us, our goals will guide us and keep us focused.

So let’s talk about goal setting for a bit.

What is Goal Setting?

Goal setting is a powerful personal process for determining your ideal future and creating your path to get there. Goals should be reasonably thought out and written down. Then shared with a trusted friend or family member who can support your journey.

This goal setting process will help you choose where you want to go in life and exactly how you can get there. It will also highlight any distractions so you can remain focused and conscious on your path to get what you want out of life.

How Do I Start Goal Setting?

There is a tried and true process to goal setting. And it is actually really fun and exciting! So pour your favorite drink, grab a pen and paper and let’s get to it!

  1. Dream big! First create your big idea, the big picture of what you want your life to look like and identify the large-scale goals that you wish to achieve. This is what you want to have happen in your life – career, kids, family, travel, a novel… whatever you would like to accomplish.
  2. Break it down! Now break this big picture down into smaller and smaller tasks that you must hit in order to reach your long-term goals. Start with a 5 year plan, define where you want to be in 5 years, then 1 year, then 6 months and so on until you have your daily tasks at hand and a full outline of goals leading up to accomplishing your big idea!
  3. Commit to it! Meditate, pray, take some time to exercise and think over all you have outlined and written and commit to making it happen. Only you can do this. And if you are going to succeed, you need to be fully committed.
  4. Get started! You got this – you have finished the goal setting part and it’s time to make it happen. I know you can. Stay focused, stay excited and anything is possible!

We have been given this time in quarantine to do some soul searching and make some necessary changes to our daily habits. I know you have been thinking about goal setting so why not have a sit down and do some goal setting?
