Domestic Violence Awareness Month During Covid Quarantine

Domestic Violence Awareness Month During Covid Quarantine

domestic-violence-awareness

October is domestic violence awareness month and as always we are going to be talking about domestic violence awareness all month! Because it is important to keep the conversation going, especially now during the Covid Quarantine – when domestic violence is at an all-time high.

Domestic violence was already an epidemic before the Covid-19 quarantine and with this quarantine it has seen a tremendous spike in incidents of abuse, not shockingly. 3 in 4 Americans know someone who has been affected by domestic violence. That is almost everyone…

Making it really important to speak up, to talk about, to ask about it, to learn about it, to listen to a survivor and to share information. Because you never know who is listening, who needs to hear your message, who needs you to see you are there and willing to listen to them.

I can say this because I know first-hand how it feels to fall victim to domestic violence. And almost no one knew. I thought I was hiding it so well. I became so wrapped in my bubble of pretending everything was ok, presenting the perfect family, that I almost lost my life to domestic violence – the last big fight. Literally. My 8 year-old son saved my life. And he and my daughter have been my lights guiding me out of the darkness ever since, giving me a reason to speak up, a reason to spread hope and peace.

Since I have been on my journey to healing and helping others heal from their traumas, I have connected with some of the most amazing lights on earth, who may not be here if we stop talking about domestic violence.

You never know who is listening, so keep the lines of communication open.

  2. The National Domestic Violence Hotline – 1-800-799-7233. The NFL has partnered up with them helping to provide significant resources to help meet growing demands for help. Call them, they can help no matter where you are or what you are doing.
