We are several months into this pandemic quarantine so it is normal to be feeling worried, anxious and overwhelmed. I think we all do at moments. In the midst of managing this situation, we have been so focused on slowing the spread and figuring out new work routines and how to help our children with their educational needs that our mental health has been put on the back burner, slowly igniting…

Domestic violence incidents are at an all time high, people are drinking and drugging more than ever, chronic health problems are rampant, and many are turning to probably not great habits (sleep and eating changes) to cope with what is happening in the world. We are in survival mode, and it is time to switch out of it!!

With just a few conscious adjustments to our daily habits, we can easily increase our productivity and moods so we can thrive while we survive covid quarantine!

How To Protect Your Mental Health During Covid Quarantine

  1. Adopt a conscious mindset. Accepting our current circumstances, being honest with ourselves, kind and forgiving to ourselves as we learn this new quarantine life it will help. Thepower of positive does work, and things do happen for a reason. List off all of the positive things that have come of this quarantine for you and your family. Focus on the good. It may take a few minutes, but once you do, everything changes.
  2. Exercise & Meditate. Stay true to your body. Take walks, run, there are plenty of exercise videos on Amazon Prime. Continuing to give your body an outlet like exercise will help relieve stress and anxiety, numerous studies have proven this. Then giving it time to meditate or pray will relieve a ton of stress and anxiety.
  3. Take a break from the news and social media. Disconnect for at least5 minutes every day, longer if you can. I like to take time in the morning to consciously be thankful and then I make a list of the things I would like to accomplish for the day. I forget about the news, I don’t think about what everyone else is doing, I listen to my instinct and I chose to put a positive perspective on things.
  4. Writing helps in leaps in bounds. It is a material form of releasing for our minds. When you start feeling really anxious or stressed go do a ‘mind dump’. Open a journal or notebook and write down all of the things going on in your head. Get it all out. I know this from experience and science backs it up, journaling reduces stress and anxiety almost immediately by over 55%! This is an awesome tool to protect your mental health.
  5. Get involved. It may only be able to be online, but find a group or an activity and pursue online. Find other ways of staying connected with friends. Humans are social creatures, connecting and sharing helps boost our moods and confidence, which will protect your mental health.
  6. Appreciate. Choose to focus on the things that you have, that are going well, that make your life better. Simply shifting our focus can dramatically help protect your mental health during covid quarantine.
