The Power Of Positive

The Power Of Positive

the power of positive

November is one of my favorite months of the year for so many reasons. The first being that this is a great month to focus on all that we have to be thankful for in the spirit of American Thanksgiving this month and the upcoming holiday season. Let the Power of Positive begin!

The second being that November is National Blog Posting Month where loads of bloggers pledge to post every day for the month of November. National Blog Posting Month is about creatively challenging yourself and connecting with new people in a unique way. This year, for the first time, I am signing on with BlogHer to be part of their NaBloPoMo November challenge. There is still time to sign up if you would like to join us, just click here NaBloPoMo.

This week’s prompts are:

  • Nov. 1: When you’re having a bad day with your mental health, what do you do to help yourself?
  • Nov. 2: When was the last time you did something brave? What happened?
  • Nov. 3: If you could be completely honest with no regrets, what would you say and to whom?
  • Nov. 4: Which fall shows should totally be canceled already?

In addition to writing about each topic, I will be adding something I am thankful for and welcome you to comment with something you are thankful for in your life. Sharing is a wonderful way to spread joy and is always appreciated!

For my first NaBloPoMo post, I want to share with you the power of positive. Given that I am navigating my way through a divorce and single parenthood, there are plenty of days that I start off feeling like my life is a disaster.

Recently I shared with you How to Focus on the Positives, a post featuring 8 easy things you can do to choose happy today.

But let’s get a little more specific, given today’s prompt. On those days that I feel like it is all going to break, this is what I do to help myself.

The Power of Positive

We can all choose to be happy, to be positive, to be satisfied, if we would like to. We simply need to make the conscious choice to be happy, to be positive instead of negative and it is completely up to ourselves. Sometimes we need a little help remembering this though, so here is how I help myself.

My day begins and includes The Power of Positive:

Go look in the mirror and tell myself “I love you, you are a good person doing the best you can.”

I then go have snuggles and cuddles with my littles because that always brings joy.

I get dressed nicely, even if only to take the kids to school. Taking the time to look your best is a subliminal confidence booster that will make you feel better once you have done it, even if you have to force yourself to skip over those sweat pants, do it! 😉

Take a walk. I like to take walks in the morning, it oxygenates the brain and helps produce serotonin – the happy hormone. While on this walk I think about all of the things I am thankful for or really appreciative of and get myself into a positive frame of mind. By thinking positive thoughts, I am inviting positive things to happen – The Laws of Attraction.

I will call a friend who is honest and inspires me. Having a conversation with a friend who motivates and inspires me always puts me in a great frame of mind. We all have them in our lives, when was the last time you talked to yours?

I get stuff done! We all have that ‘list’ we keep. Make a point to check a few things off the list for another confidence booster. It gives us the sense of accomplishment we may just need for the day.

Take 5 parent minutes. It’s ok to take a little me time and just breath for a few minutes. Actually, it’s more than ok, it is imperative to keeping your sanity! So relax for 5 minutes and just breath and know that everything is going to be just right for you.

Eat right. Choosing to eat healthy, good foods for our bodies and soul can be key to feeling our best. I try to eat as healthy as possible, especially during the hard days to give my body the best possible fuel and my mind the opportunity to make good choices.

By focusing on these things and by choosing the power of positive, you can and will have better and better days. Knowing that you can choose to look at things in a positive light is just the first step.

And it is as simple as that – by making a choice. So give it a try.

Start off with thinking about a few things you are really thankful for.

Today, I am really thankful that we have gotten some rain for the past 3 days here in Southern California. We have needed it and I am so glad we have gotten it! Rain adds sparkle everywhere, there is so much beauty that we are fortunate to have all around us, if we just take the time to notice it.
