My 5 Fave Hikes For Families in Malibu
Malibu is one of the prettiest towns in Southern California. Not only is there great shopping, fantastic restaurants and endless sandy beaches but there are gorgeous canyons with breathtaking hikes to be had too.
Hiking is a great family activity that each family member, no matter the age, will enjoy. Whether you like a hardcore hike or a leisurely stroll, there is a hike for you here in Malibu!
The following hikes are great for families with middle school and younger age children.
My 5 Fave Hikes For Families in Malibu
- Malibu Creek State Park: The Mash hike! Remember that old war show MASH? That was actually filmed right here in Malibu and some of the set has been left for us wanderers to find! It is a short, pretty hike along a riverbed. There is a visitors center about halfway in with bathrooms and a fun swimming hole just in front. It is a fairly easy hike, but you will still want to bring water, wear comfortable shoes and bring a towel just in case you feel like taking a dip! And don’t forget that camera – there are lots of fun photo opps on this hike!
- Solstice Canyon: You can read my full review on Solstice Canyon here. It is a fun hike with a wide open path so it is good for large groups as well as families. It is dog friendly and there is a little water trickle at the end which is super fun for the kids to play in. This is also a very easy hike, but still, bring water, wear comfortable shoes and take the camera with you!
- Escondido Falls: This one is a little more challenging, but the incredible views and water fall (when it is fully flowing) is well worth it. It is just under 4 miles with a few steep inclines to get up. If you like the challenge, you can continue on to the upper falls for an even more stunning view, but it is beautiful at the mid-point too! You will definitely want to pack water and some snacks for this hike. Also make sure to have appropriate footwear and bring that camera too!
- Zuma Canyon Trail: This is such a pretty trail and is a very easy hike – for any age. There is very little incline, lots of shade and plenty of gorgeous views. Make sure to bring the water, wear comfy shoes and carry that camera the whole way – you will use it here!
- Corral Canyon Park: A fun hike with a bit of a challenge. You do have to pay to park at this one ($5) but it is worth it. This is a pretty hike that takes you down into the canyons and then up on top of them with beautiful views all around. There are some steep inclines but you will feel like you are in a tropical paradise here. Dogs are allowed on this hike, just be sure to bring plenty of water and the appropriate foot wear!
