Thanksgiving 2014
On this day we have pie and mimosas (virgin ones for the kiddos) for breakfast. We love to bake pies in our family and a few years ago decided to have the pies for breakfast because we are so full after the feast that we never got to properly enjoy the pies! It is one of my favorite family traditions.
Then we have a family tournament – this year it is air hockey!
Before we know it, it will be time to gather around our family table and share a feast filled with great food, better wine and lots of laughter.
I feel so blessed to be able to have such a spectacular family day and I am so thankful for that.
However, I am all to aware that there are many, many people out there who do not have these things.
So this year at Thanksgiving, when Granny comes in and pinches your cheeks a little too hard and leaves some lipstick on your face, just be thankful she is there. When Uncle complains again about the food, just smile and be thankful he is there. When Grandpa farts as he bends over to load up his plate with food, politely ignore it and be thankful he is there.
When you are feeling overwhelmed by all of the company coming over to your house, stop, breathe and be thankful that you have company. Someone to come over and share this day with you. Because many, many people do not have this. And one day, these people will not be able to come over and even if they were nightmares to deal with, you will miss them.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I ask you to be thankful for your friends and family who have chosen to spend this day with you. And if you venture out, share a smile with a stranger who is alone. Maybe share some extra fruit/food with a homeless person on the corner. Give that pain in the butt Uncle a hug, just because, see if that helps his grouchiness!!
But most importantly, BE THANKFUL. For your family, for your food and for each morning you get to wake up and live.
