Day 13 – About Malibu
Just 6 miles off the beach at Point Dume in Malibu lies a very interesting underwater structure. This is an image from Google Earth that I found fascinating on HuffPost.
This smooth structure is about 2,000 feet down and has people wondering if it is some sort of an alien base. Measuring 2.5 miles across with columns that seem to hold it up, many believe it is too smooth and perfect to be natural. There have been many claims made over the last 50 years of alien sightings in Malibu – none of them ever confirmed – so this structure has everyone wondering – is this alien headquarters?!
Of course there are some other explanations too. Others suggest it is a ‘thrust fault’ (when one side of the crust gets pushed up onto another side) as it is on the Southern California Fault Line. Since we have not yet been able to send a camera down, some wonder how accurate these photos really are and think this could be a natural occurrence.
Part of local Chumash History records that “at first people lived in a coastal valley right there and got flooded out about 12,000 years ago. At the end of the last ice age, sea levels rose [and covered it].” Perhaps it is a valley from long ago.
Here is why this is on my radar – if you visit this location between January and June you are most assured to see whales playing here. I always have and one day I wondered why the whales seem to play here so I googled it and found this!
Whatever you choose to believe about this Malibu structure, it is cool and evokes the thought “what if”.
