Day 14 About Malibu – The Malibu Lagoon State Beach
The Malibu Lagoon is 22 acres of wetlands, flower gardens and sandy beach. There are lovely pathways with very pretty lookouts.
It is where Malibu Creek meets the Pacific Ocean. The beach running along the outside of it is called the Surfrider beach and is home to Malibu’s famous never-ending wave. The Lagoon begins at the Malibu Pier and extends up just past the Malibu Creek Bridge.
There are picnic areas and nature signs everywhere teaching us about Southern California Salt Marsh Life. It takes about 30 minutes to walk the whole thing. Parking is $12 and limited – especially on the weekends! This park is handicap friendly. There are informative, guided tours available seasonally.
Many locals park here and walk out to Surfrider Beach to spend the day – it is a fantastic family beach with chilled out happy families who all love the Malibu Beach life! Kids will be in surfing or paddleboarding or snorkeling and the parents are out surfing or relaxing watching them! My only advice is, if you want to have a fun beach day, bring a wagon to get all of your beach stuff out there, it is a bit of a walk!!
