Day 4 About Malibu – Families that surf
For many Malibu Families, surfing is a way of life. It is totally normal to, actually it would be weird if you didn’t, see moms or dads in the water helping their kids learn to surf on any beach you visit in Malibu. It is such a peaceful sport that really highlights how connected everything is and provides a great opportunity to bond with your kids/family members.
Malibu has a long history in surfing. We have a never ending wave here that people come from all over the world to ride. Which means we are also home to some epic surf competitions – more on that this weekend!
In 1927, surfing innovator Tom Blake, with friend Sam Reid, discovered the Malibu never ending wave – 2 years before this section was open to the public! Soon after most top California surfers came to ride and by the time World War II came, Malibu had earned the reputation as the best wave on the west coast, for good reason!
Not to worry if you are visiting and did not bring your board – The Malibu Surf Shack has you covered! They offer a variety of rental boards and lessons for your pleasure! The perfect wave is waiting for you here in Malibu!
Tomorrow I will start sharing our local hot spots – see you then!
