A Day Trip On The Fillmore Easter Train
My in-laws usually spend the Easter Holiday with us so I am always pressed to find a fun way for all ages to celebrate after our traditional egg hunt and morning activities.
I had heard about the Fillmore Easter Train so I looked into it thinking it might be something that grandparents can enjoy with young grandchildren (plus us parents may actually get some time to relax too!).
Fillmore is a town that is about an hour north of Malibu and is known for their farms and orchards. In addition to that the railroad and trains themselves have been used for filming many movies since the early 70’s as it is about an hour and half outside of LA but yet feels like you are far away in the countryside!!
What is the Fillmore Easter Train?
The Fillmore Easter Train is a 2 ½ hour afternoon train ride through a scenic countryside. They serve lunch, have the Easter Bunny walking around to deliver treats and take pictures with and they make a stop at a very pretty country garden store.
The Fillmore Easter Train runs on Easter Sunday from 12 – 2:30pm leaving from the historic downtown area on Main St. – reservations are required.
Our Fillmore Easter Train Experience
We arrived at about 11:30 am and got parked. They do have free parking that is located right next to where you board the train. It is all handicapped accessible.
The station has lovely flowers growing all around which provided tons of places for nice family photo opps! We enjoyed walking around and checking out the old trains until we heard the whistle calling us to board. The kids were really excited!
We got on the train and found our tables, which were pleasantly decorated for Easter.
The conductor came through and collected out tickets and before we knew it, we were on our way!
It was a lovely ride through an orchard. There were beautiful views and we were able to carry on a pleasant conversation with our group. The train was not noisy, stuffy or uncomfortable in any way. Everyone was happy!
Shortly after we started, the wait staff began taking drink orders and bringing food out. The staff was friendly, kind and quick to make sure that we had everything we needed. The food was good, exactly what you would expect for this kind of thing. The kids ate it happily as did the grandparents – success!
After we had finished eating, we stopped off at a country garden store with several big fish ponds. The kids had fun getting off the train and checking out the ponds and the grandparents enjoyed all of the plants and pottery work. We spent about 20 minutes there then once again boarded the train and headed back.
On the way back, we met the Eater Bunny! He was a cool Easter Bunny (not at all creepy – you know what I mean parents!!) who was handing out little Easter Treats to the kids.
I had brought a deck of cards and both of my children’s Nabis to entertain us all with and I was glad to have them. It was a great ride back as we all took turns challenging each other with the fun games on their Nabis.
The Fillmore Easter Train was a great way to spend Easter, everyone had a great time! If you have members of your family from all age ranges, this may be a fantastic way for you to make some holiday memories that will last forever!
No matter where you choose to spend this Easter, I hope it is filled with family, fun, laughter and love!
Happy Spring!
