3 Steps To Radiant Skin All Winter Long
Winters can wreak havoc on our skin. The colder months bring forced hot air, drying us out. And going from hot to cold, inside to outside, does not help any!! Dry skin is constantly a problem.
Lucky for us, there are a few easy things we can do to keep our skin glowing, and hydrated, all winter long! We just need to be conscious of it.
Much like we eat seasonally, we need to adjust our skincare seasonally. As many of us are right in the middle of a cold spell right now, I thought I would share my conscious beauty routine that has been keeping my skin nice and supple all winter!
3 Steps To Radiant Skin All Winter Long
- Purify. A great way to begin the wind down process before bed. Cleansing your face is all about removing the dirt, the environmental pollutants and your makeup from the day. Remember how we talked about your skin being your biggest organ and how it absorbs 64% due to how porous it is? This is why cleansing is essential to healthy skin. You must remove anything left on your skin from the day, including your makeup and prep it for a nice moisturizer.
During the winter months, I prefer to use a thicker, creamier or oil-based cleanser nightly in addition to a creamier exfoliant several times a week. You will want to be careful not to use anything to strong (like a gel cleanser) as it will strip your natural oils, which are super important to retain during the colder months. One of my favorites is from Ever Skincare. Click here to read about The Luminous Nutrient Rich Cleansing Balm.
I love to exfoliate often. I use a creamy one with natural very fine granules. It keeps my skin looking fresh and helps ward off those impending wrinkles… ?
- Hydrate. Let your body drink it in! I like to shower at night. So I begin with washing my face, then take a nice warm shower. Not for too long though… long, steamy showers in the winter will dry you out quickly. So I keep it on the shorter side and I use a creamy body wash.
Then I seal the deal by spending a few minutes covering myself in a nice thick lotion. Taking the time to do this subconsciously lets you know you are worth it, you are valuable and will make your skin look incredible. It will relax you, help clear your mind and set the tone for a good sleep.
For my face, I love using Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. It keeps my skin feeling soft and smooth and very well hydrated. You will want to use something creamy and on the thicker side for the nights. It’s best to get between 7-9 hours of sleep each night making this the best time to give your skin some deep, hydrating love!
- Rejuvenate. Put on those cozy clothes, something soft for your skin to keep the moisture in for the night. Light your favorite candle or diffuse your best essential oil, feel how good your skin feels now that it has been given some love. Take a few minutes to reflect on your day and set your intentions for the coming one.
Cheers and Happy, Conscious Skincare!
