5 Adventurous Family Travel Ideas for Fathers Day Weekend
Fathers Day Weekend is right around the corner and every year I get super excited to plan something unique for us to do.
Landing on the third weekend in June, Fathers Day Weekend is the perfect time to plan a family trip. The kids have just gotten out of school, both Mom and Dad are ready for a little break before summer really begins and the weather is usually beautiful everywhere this time of year.
This year I am having trouble deciding what to do – there are so many things I want to check out!! Here are my top 5 adventurous family travel ideas for Fathers Day Weekend – please comment on which one you would prefer this year to help me decide! 😉
5 Adventurous Family Travel Ideas for Fathers Day Weekend
- Stay in or near a National Park. We recently visited Yosemite National Park and had a blast (you can read about our family trip to Yosemite Madera here). There are so many family friendly activities in and around the majority of our national parks that there is endless family entertainment available. Whether you are camping, glamping or staying in one of the many resorts in or around the park, visiting a national park is a great option for Fathers Day Weekend. I hope to be able to visit the majority of our national parks by the time my kids are finishing high school. Yosemite was our first, thinking Joshua National Park will be next and would be fun for Fathers Day Weekend.
- Rent a Houseboat on a Lake. I just think this would be super fun. I googled ‘rent a houseboat on a lake in California’ and tons of options came up. Try googling it, just change the state to your state and see what pops up – I bet something adventurous looking! Read this post on how I use the internet to plan our family trips.
- Rent a Beach Cottage. Head to the nearest coast and get some quality beach and family time in. From tasting locally made foods (beach towns are notorious for amazing homemade ice cream…) to long walks on the beach, to playing in the water and even trying mini-golf – most beach villages are packed with things to make your family trip super special – and one you will want to repeat each year!
- Plan a Super Fun Staycation. With a little bit of effort and planning, you can turn your own home into a super fun resort-style paradise for the kids to spoil Dad with during Fathers Day Weekend. I have been thinking about doing this for a while so I can share my great how-to tips here, perhaps this is the Fathers Day Weekend to do it!
- Visit Your Nearest Big City. For us, it is LA; which is close, but we rarely seem to all go in together. It would be fun to book a room for Fathers Day Weekend in the city. Then build the excitement by taking time together as a family to pick which attractions to see and which restaurants to try.
These are the 5 things we are looking at doing for Fathers Day Weekend this year.
