Mama Loves Family Travel – Our Second Honeymoon to Fiji

I had been dreaming about this my whole life.

Yet it only took 6 months and several clicks to make it happen!

Two months ago we took our second honeymoon to Fiji and IT… WAS… EPIC…

So epic that I am taking 5 FULL days to go completely Fiji Happy and share all of my GoPro Hero4 footage! We recorded everything from the landscapes, to the fantastic people, the mouthwatering food, the art and unique architecture, the adventurously romantic excursions and the local music at Matangi Private Island Resort in Fiji.

Matangi Private Island Resort is an exclusive, adult’s only, private island off of the slightly larger island of Taveuni. They are an all-inclusive resort meaning the price of the room includes 3 meals a day, laundry service and some activities. Coming from Los Angeles, we flew into Nadi, one of only 2 international airports in Fiji on the largest island of Viti Levu. We then jumped on another plane and head to Taveuni, about an hour fligt.

Once at Taveuni airport, a Matangi van and driver will be there to take you on a short 10 minute drive to where you will meet the boat.

It is about a 20 minute boat ride that really is amazing. The captain is a local expert and we felt totally safe. He pointed things out to us as we went by. We already felt very welcome and truly enjoyed the ride.

We pulled up to the staff on the beach, singing and clapping with coconut drinks ready for us! Even though it was a bit of a gray day, we truly felt welcomed and were so excited to check the place out.

The first thing I noticed is that it is very peaceful there. Everyone is very happy and willing to help not only the guests but each other as well. As we were shown to our Beachfront Bure I discovered just how untouched this place is. There are no roads or vehicles on the island at all. Just paths and people!

Then we entered our Beachfront Bure at Matangi Private Island Resort and I felt like we had been transported to well… heaven! There, standing in front of me, was my dream bed. Seriously… it is incredible.

A four-poster, air-conditioned, canopy bed!! Complete with one of the most comfortable mattresses I have ever slept in, luxurious sheets and really nice pillows. The bed is hand-carved of island wood and has turtles and other sea creatures carved into it. We both slept so well here and I made hubby promise he would carve me one by our 30^th anniversary (a girl can hope, can’t she?!)!!!

There is a lovely sitting room, beautiful bathroom with outside shower (another personal fave) and a coffee/tea/snack bar – with homemade cookies there for you!

Just steps outside the front of our Bure at Matangi Private Island Resort was the beach with lounge chairs, a hammock and white sand as far as the eye could see.

Once we were changed and settled, we walked over to the main building to have lunch, after which I was super excited to get the couples massage. With the Romance Package we had a couple’s massage, a candlelit dinner and a private picnic at the exclusive Horseshoe Bay to look forward to.

The spa is gorgeous and the massages were really nice! We had never had a massage together before and hubby is not big on getting them (in fact I had to make some promises in order to get him in there…) but we had fun smiling at each other and being pampered for a bit! And we were totally relaxed afterwards, it was a great massage!

We then went on a hike with Sireli, the exceptional concierge there. The views were breath – taking, you have to watch the video to see them and visit to feel the magic. Seeing Horseshoe Bay, the place we were to spend a morning and afternoon really got me excited!

On our second day we went snorkeling around a shipwreck and saw some amazing fish. The diving at this resort is said to be incredible, we did not however get to join one of these excursions. Next time for sure as the snorkeling was absolutely brilliant. That afternoon we spent some time hanging around the resort and enjoying how peaceful and beautiful it is there.

Finally the morning arrived for our Horseshoe Bay excursion and I was super excited. The resort packs you a yummy lunch and gives you the choice of beer or wine. You bring some towels, sunscreen and bug spray, hop into a boat and off you go.

It is about a 15 minute boat ride to a very remote section of the island. Your guide gives you a few instructions, shows you around, wishes you well and off they go! For 3 hours this little slice of heaven is all yours! Check it out in this video:

The time we spent in Horseshoe Bay alone was worth making this journey. That night we had a delicious, romantic candlelit dinner to complete the most incredible day of my life (only next to each of the days my children were born). This is a memory I will cherish forever and I know hubby will too at Matangi Private Island Resort in Fiji.

The next morning it was time to head out. We were sad to leave and will definitely be back once the kids are old enough to go. Everyone should see Horseshoe Bay and sleep in the special canopy beds at Matangi Private Island Resort at some point in their life!
