10 Reasons to Take a Momcation
The mom life:
Wake up. Take a minute {or 5} to get yourself sorted, then it’s down to the kitchen to get breakfast started, pack lunches for the day and unload the dishwasher. Get kids up. Get kids fed, dressed, teeth brushed, school bag packed and get a load of laundry running.
Bring kids to school. Head to work – which can be home or office!! Begin to tackle your mile long to-do list.
Before you know it, it is time to pick the kids up from school, shuttle them to afternoon activities, help them get their {excruciatingly huge amount of} homework done. Start kids on an activity so you can make dinner. Get table set, feed everyone.
Clean up after then get kids in shower and into jammies with brushed teeth. Read books and spend the next hour pleading with them to stay in bed and go to sleep. Finally it’s quiet, perfect time for you to get anything done that you did not get to earlier – even though you are literally exhausted.
Go to sleep.
Wake up.
Repeat all.
Sound familiar? Do you even remember how long it has been since you have had a different kind of a day? I’m guessing it may coincide with the date your first child was born… I know it did for me!!
Until one day, my bestie called me and said we are going on holiday with no children and no Dad’s! Hmmmm, a momcation, I called it.
What is a Momcation?
A vacation just for Mamas!! No kids, no mates. Only girl-friends, good times and peaceful vibes.
Even though leaving my babies is the hardest thing in the world to do – even if it is only for a few days – I know it is for the best. A little separation every now and then is absolutely healthy, for both parent and child. This is why.
10 Reasons to Take a Momcation
- To build independence in your child {and to remind you of yours}.
- To give the other parent some much needed one-on-one time with the littles!!
- To remind you that you are a special person and you do matter to the world.
- To feel human again – parents, you know what I mean here!!
- To not have to cook or clean for a few days, instead being able to focus on yourself.
- To be able to eat and wake up on your own schedule – a little luxury all on its own!
- To try some new trendy styles and get out of those yoga pants… 😉
- To let loose and be able to play a little – like you used to do before our amazing littles came along!
- To let your children (and mate) miss you – absence can make the heart grow fonder…!! All to often we get taken for granted. What better way to help them realize they are not appreciating you by letting them fend for themselves for a few days?!!
- To strengthen the parent/child bond. Going but coming back sends the message to your children that it is ok to be apart because we both know that it will not be for long, we will come right back. This will help kids feel secure about themselves and about you.
