The Land of Dragor: Book 1: The Gift of Charms
Author Julia Suzuki writes a fantastic tale of a special dragon living among seven clans of dragons hidden from humans.
I am honored to have been given a preview copy in return for an honest review. Even though this book is targeted at the 8yr/old+ market, I found myself completely engrossed from the first page.
The tale opens up to a very worried set of parents who have an egg that is multi-colored – not at all like the others. The parents protect the egg from the elders and other clans. Rumors have spread that this strange egg will bring a new era, but all are unsure whether that is good or bad.
A parent’s love wins out and the hatchling is born! We are quickly introduced to Yoshiko, the hatchling, who is treated with great mistrust from the clans’ right from the beginning.
We follow Yoshiko to fire school where he encounters a bully and must learn to deal with being made fun of and not fitting in. Yoshiko also learns that hard work pays off.
These are invaluable lessons for our youth to be learning in such a fun, creative way – and a great reminder to us who have put those days behind us!!
The characters that Ms. Suzuki has created are charming, relatable and very likeable. The lessons we are to learn from each character are very clear.
The nice thing about this book is that there are characters in here for everyone to relate to. Whether you are an elder with concerns, a worried parent, or that child trying to figure it all out, Ms. Suzuki has created a character from whom we can learn!
I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
