The Art of Letting Go: A Conscious Mama’s End-of-Summer Reflection

There’s a quiet ache in late August – a soft pull between holding on and letting go. The air starts to shift, the light lingers a little differently, and as a conscious mama, I can feel the invitation: release what no longer serves.
Summer has always carried a certain magic in our home. It’s barefoot mornings, spontaneous adventures, sticky hands, laughter echoing in the backyard. But this summer, something deeper stirred in me. Those once sticky hands are now teenage hands – grabbing keys, not juice boxes. They’re working jobs, doing internships, spending more time out in the world. The house feels quieter. My role feels quieter.
And yet – this quiet has been a teacher.
This season wasn’t about “doing” as much as it was about undoing.
As I moved through moments of joy and challenge – balancing motherhood, healing work, hormonal shifts, and the complexities of family – I realized how much I’d been gripping. Old expectations. Outdated roles. Stories about who I need to be in order to be “enough.”
And now, as the summer wanes, I’m choosing to let go.
Not in a dramatic, ceremonial way (though I do love a good ritual). But in small, steady ways. Clearing out the corners of the home. Saying no without guilt. Drinking water like it’s sacred. Making peace with the version of myself I no longer need to carry forward.
A Portal for Releasing
Interestingly, the energy around us is echoing this call to release. The upcoming Black Moon portal on August 23rd marks a powerful time for surrender. (A Black Moon is a rare second new moon in a single month—often signaling potent transformation and rebirth.) Whether you’re into astrology or not, there’s something undeniably meaningful about aligning with these natural rhythms.
So I’m using this window to reflect. To breathe deeply. To shed.
I’m asking myself:
- What weight am I ready to set down?
- What beliefs feel tight around my spirit?
- Where can I create more spaciousness – in my home, body, relationships, and mind?

A Simple Letting Go Ritual
You don’t need anything fancy to mark this shift. Here’s what I did last night:
- Lit a candle and sat quietly after the kids went to bed.
- Wrote down three things I’m ready to release.
- Spoke them aloud – to myself, to the moon, to God, to the universe.
- Tore the paper, one line at a time.
- Whispered a thank you – for the lesson, for the release.
It was tender. It was enough.
Moving Forward Lightly
Letting go doesn’t always mean loss. Sometimes it means creating space. Sometimes it means trusting that what’s ahead will require less hustle, more softness. Less perfection, more presence.
So here’s to this end-of-summer shift – not as a goodbye to fun, but a hello to deeper alignment.
