National Parks are a great place to have a family adventure. And of all the national parks – there are over 400 – Yosemite is one of the incredibly amazing ones. Did you even think to visit Yosemite National Park?

Yosemite National Park is one of the most visited parks in our nation, and now I know why.

We recently visited Yosemite Madera County. We had so much fun that every day next week, starting Sunday May 1st, I will be publishing a new post on each of the things we experienced there plus our packing lists and complete trip itinerary.

Before we get to that,

Here are 9 reasons to visit Yosemite National Park this year:

The first reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to appreciate how magnificent our earth is.

The beauty of Yosemite National Park is like non-other and definitely something to see in your lifetime. From mind-blowing waterfalls, to Mirror Lake, to the climbers on El Capitan, to the majestic Half Dome, to the peaceful meadows and ancient Sequoia tree forests – it is surreal, it is humbling, it is brilliant!

The second reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to make memories that will last you a lifetime.

What you will see and do while visiting this peaceful, inspiring place will stay with you forever.

The third reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to have a unique family adventure building that precious family bond.

Yosemite Madera is such a family friendly place filled with resorts and attractions that are all geared towards families.

The fourth reason to visit Yosemite National Park is for the amazing family focused resorts there.

We stayed at The Pines Resort on Bass Lake (review will be up on Monday, be sure to check back πŸ˜‰ ) which was a picturesque 20 minute drive to the South Entrance of Yosemite. Staying here opened up a whole new world of things for us to do in Yosemite Madera. Not only did we spend an entire day in the park, but we also spent an entire day just checking out all of the many activities for families available at this resort!

The fifth reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to complete the Junior Ranger Program and perhaps one of their art courses.

The Junior Ranger Program is a great way to learn some unique facts about the park while learning how to take care of the park – something every child should know about. It took about an hour and half to complete, the parents help the kids complete a booklet that is completely interactive. It was great! They also offer art courses and one or two hour painting sessions, something I would like to try next time!

The sixth reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to spend a day playing on Bass Lake.

Rent a pontoon boat from Bass Lake Watersports and head out for a day no one in your family will ever forget. You can fish, tube, waterski, wakeboard, cruise around the lake, find a beach to have a picnic on or drop anchor and bbq on the water – their boats have grills on them! The staff there is really knowledgeable and they have everything you need for your day out on the water.

The seventh reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to ride the Sugar Pine Railroad, check out their museum and pan for gold!

This was one of the highlights of our trip. You sit in an open car made from one tree and go for a scenic, peaceful ride that lasts about an hour. There is a 15 minute stop off at a camp area they have set up for bonfires and gatherings. It is a great experience.

The eighth reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to try the exclusive craft beers and delicious cuisine at the South Gate Brew Co.

This is one of Yosemite Madera County’s best meeting spots that the locals probably want kept a secret but is so good I have to tell you about it! They are in such demand that they are expanding right now using local labor  – the new room should be finished and ready for you this June 2016. Their ingredients are fresh, local and as organic as possible and their beers are made on site. They even have their own homemade root beer that got two thumbs up from both of my kids (I loved it too!).

The ninth reason to visit Yosemite National Park is to get back to nature with our families.

There is something so wonderful about being out in nature, around so many incredible things to do and conscious of life around us. It takes the wine out of our kids voices and puts the wonder into all of our minds. It strengthens our family bond. It helps us learn to depend on each other.

When Should I visit Yosemite National Park?

Anytime you can!

We chose to visit Yosemite Madera in the spring and discovered that it is an amazing time of year to go. The weather was just right, cooler in the mornings and evenings but nice and warm during the day. Plus the waterfalls were raging because of all of the rain and snow melt. We enjoyed it so much, we may just make a yearly trip out of it!

If you have a fourth grader, thanks to the Every Kid in a Park Program, your family will gain free entry into any national park, Yosemite included, this year.
