What Is Inner Child Healing?

Inner-Child-Healing

You know that little voice inside your head that is reminiscent of you as a child? The one that speaks up when things are not really going right?

That is sound of your inner child. No matter how old we grow, we can always hear them. Perhaps our hurt 5-year-old self shows up when your partner works late a lot. Or our misunderstood teenage self comes out when things don’t go the way we wanted at work.

Acknowledging and caring for this inner child is what inner child healing is all about.

Inner Child Healing involves creating a safe space for your subconscious to take the lead allowing us to explore our inner feelings that may have been rejected or labeled as ‘inappropriate’ by others.

Many pre-conditioned limiting belief systems were developed in us as children. Often without understanding or notice. They stick in our subconscious causing us to make choices and live in a way that is not authentic to our true selves. They get us stuck on autopilot, coasting through life feeling anxious, unhappy, insecure, and often depressed.

By addressing our inner child healing and allowing ourselves to take time to go deep within our subconscious, honestly addressing all of the things we think we needed that we did not receive (and a few things we did receive that we definitely did not need) we can begin peeling back our everyday coping mechanisms and let our subconscious become conscious.

When our subconscious becomes conscious, we have the option to rewrite and transform those coping mechanisms into ones that serve our true selves.

What Really Is Our Inner Child?

Our inner child is a representation of ourselves at multiple points in our childhood. They are the little voice inside of us, nagging us that things just are not right, reminding us that we are not honoring ourselves. As children we are very impressionable and absorb everything around us. Inner child wounds, also known as attachment wounds, can happen when there is either traumatic events or chronic abuses without repair.

These feelings lie in wait in our subconscious, changing our chemical reactions and often forming limiting beliefs that hold us back. They can cause feelings of unknown anxiety, frustration, depression, stress and even suicidal thoughts.

How Do I Start My Inner Child Healing?

Awareness and understanding is where it all begins. If you are having any of these feelings, you probably need to do some inner child work. Finding the right life coach or therapist to guide you and surrounding yourself with the right community is very important. It is hard work, but it is very rewarding work.

In adulthood we have the opportunity to look back with a new understanding of our childhood and begin to rewrite those limiting belief systems. It takes work and honestly, finding the right community. Because at the end of the day, you are not alone. Many, many of us go through this learning process and sharing our stories helps.
