Domestic Violence Awareness Month October 2021 – What You Need To Know
October 1st marks the start of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. So we are going to be talking a lot this month about survival, getting help, resources, how to help our family and more because honestly, we never truly know what is going on behind the scenes.
Domestic violence effects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men, this sadly has become a common fact. So chances are, there is someone in your inner circle who is being hurt and can’t find their way out, especially with our world having been so changed by the quarantine – domestic violence cases are way up. Now we need to get our conversations way up.
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) was born to help these people over 30 years ago. Today, they are a strong, yet little known, resource for victims, survivors, and family members reaching out with open arms to over 10 million people a year who are physically harmed by a loved one. Read more here about the history of the NCADV.
I have put together a list of resources to help get your conversation going at home. Check them out:
The Domestic Violence Hotline – 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) – they are open 24 hours and can help no matter what point you are at.
