Tip 7: How to be a Conscious Beauty

Learn about the nasty ingredients and their marketing tricks. Fragrance, parabens, sulfates, phthalates are a few to get started with – if a product lists these, put it down! Find out what the active, natural ingredients are and where they fall on the list. If the front of the package boasts bamboo charcoal but it is at the end of a long list of unrecognizable ingredients, chances are only a drop of this went into the vat which means there is pretty much none in the small container you are purchasing.

Tip 8: How to be a Conscious Beauty

Start to read the labels. Look past the pretty packaging and false claims of miraculous results and head directly to the list of ingredients. Rules of thumb – if the list of ingredients is a mile long and you cannot pronounce most of the words, put it down and RUN away! If the first ingredient happens to be water, know that the formula is not concentrated therefore not as strong. Be aware of the pink-washed and green-washed labels and be sure to look for the USDA Organic Seal as well as to check it on the EWG site for the products rating.

Tip 9: How to be a Conscious Beauty

If it does not work, do not use it. Look for #greenbeauty or #organicbeauty beauty product reviews from a trusted blogger who has similar taste and skin type to yourself. No matter how squeaky clean the product is, if it does not work, do not use it. Trusted brands like ShopConsciousBeauty.com offer many different types of skin care products (offered in travel sizes for you to test) so you can easily find products that work well for you and pass on the ones that don’t!
