Women’s Rights in 2022

Womens-Rights

As many of us know, on June 24, 2022 our Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade removing federal rights for a woman to have an abortion, leaving the ultimate decision to each state independently. It seems that our Supreme Court has decided that women’s rights are no longer human rights.

Quickly to follow, 6 states (South Dakota, Misourri, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Alabama) have banned abortions, with several more set to follow at the conclusion the Supreme Court’s ruling of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. Those states are: Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia. In some cases they will grant an abortion if it is before 6 weeks… but the hoops you have to jump through…

Sadly, our government is abandoning more than 50 years of precedent and progress. Roe. V. Wade was ruled upon in 1973… and here we are 49 years later, overturning it, taking women’s rights back by light years.

Here’s the question:

What happens to the victims of incest? Rape? Abuse? The financially unable?

Did anyone take into consideration that many women don’t even know they are pregnant by 6 weeks?

Has anyone considered what will happen to these babies being born to parents who are not able to care for them?

Our foster system has over 250,000 new kids each year. Over 650,000 kids are abused in our foster care system each year, and countless disappear after going without for so long.

The lobbyists for this all seem so interested in the baby being born, but as soon as that happens, they disappear. Do they consider what this means for the child?

Whereas, I do not feel abortion should be used as a form of birth control, there are situations in which it is necessary. It is the woman’s choice, no one else’s.

And what will be next? Illegalizing contraception? LGBTQA rights?

How is this progress? And what can we do?

There are several states that are keeping it legal. In fact, our governor of California is working to pass a bill for free travel, stay and abortion for women in need. Our rights are not completely gone…

That’s why we need to talk about it. That’s why we need to keep the conversation going, wherever and whenever we can. Join us here on Conscious Straight Talk With Katie & Lindsey as we talk about it, it’s too important not too…
