Happiness is a choice. Happiness is a way of life. Happiness is a mindset.

So why aren’t we all choosing to be happy? Because sometimes the lemons that life throws at us can be really, really sour. And on those days, I am extra conscious of doing these easy 10 things happy people do everyday to give myself a little attitude adjustment!!

Encourage yourself! Look yourself in the eye in the mirror and tell yourself how amazing you are upon waking in the morning. Happy people do this regularly as it will set the tone for your whole day.

Appreciate! Try appreciating something you already have instead of lusting over something new. Appreciate the fact that this is a brand new day, filled with opportunity. Happy people appreciate all that life has to offer and take nothing for granted.

Meditate for 5 minutes each day. Happy people take time out each day to meditate and check in with themselves. This reduces stress, improves mood and helps you keep it all together!

Compliment others freely. Nothing can give your mood a boost like making some else smile and feel good. Happy people find genuine ways to compliment those around them, spreading their happiness.

See challenges as opportunities. Don’t let something seeming difficult halt you. Instead, take charge of this new opportunity and knock it out of the park! Then graciously accept praise for your hard work.  Happy people turn negatives into positives because the CHOOSE to. A happy person will gladly thank you upon being given a compliment because they are proud of the work they have done and who they are. Try choosing this perception!

Exercise! Studies show that exercise releases the happy hormones – the endorphins. Happy people exercise everyday and take great care of their bodies.

Talk to an inspirational friend! Happy people gravitate towards other happy people and surround themselves with like-minded friends who encourage each other along. Choosing to make time to talk to a friend who motivates you is a great way to get into a fantastic, productive mood.

Make things happen and live in the present. Don’t dwell on what happened yesterday and just wait for something to happen to make it all better. News Flash – Prince Charming is not coming on his horse to save the day and Happy People know it!! Happy people instead choose to focus on the future and take the steps towards doing things that will make them feel good. What is something you love to do? Choose to do that today instead of stewing about what happened yesterday because there is nothing you can do to change the past. Take the first steps to planning a trip – travel is a great way to inspire happiness and excitement! Happy people choose to live in the present.

Smile a lot! The physical act of smiling makes our body release more of those happy hormones – the endorphins. The more you make yourself smile, the happier you will become and the more contagious your smile will be. Simple science! Happy people know this and smile all the time.

Get enough sleep! Sleep is supper important. Not getting enough will leave your body feeling off and your mood irritable. Happy people (adults) get between 7-9 hours of sleep a night – how much are you getting?

So when the next bag of lemons gets dropped into our laps, we are not going to give up and admit defeat. We are going to rise to the occasion, shine and CHOOSE to be happy because we can. Using this list of 10 things happy people do everyday, we can get into a daily happiness routine that can’t be broken!
